Ana Benaroya

One of the first associations I had with Baltimore was the row house. Its’ simple and geometric rectangular form is instantly recognizable and contrasts nicely with the organic forms of nature. I then thought it would be interesting to create a “row–tree house” – thereby transforming a symbol of Baltimore urban life into a symbol of humanity co-existing with nature. The blocks of form stone quickly become leaves and the roots of the tree re-enforce that Baltimore can “Be More” if it embraced some of the natural beauty of our planet and allowed it to enter into city life.
